To my Brother. A long letter would suggest the messenger is a stranger to us. But the charming Gerontius knows everything I know, and if he were not allergic to falsehood, I think he would tell you even more than he knows — because he loves me, and his eloquence is equal to his affection. If you show him favor, you will be repaying me; but once you know him, you will favor him for his own sake.
