Letter 110

Quintus Aurelius SymmachusUnknown|c. 401 AD|symmachus

It's certainly in your nature to use your influence to help everyone who distinguishes himself in imperial service. But I owe a special obligation to the excellent Romanus, on account of the friendship that has grown between us over many years.

If my recommendation carries any weight with you, don't hesitate to believe he deserves both your affection and your most generous support. Indeed, if you take the trouble to evaluate him yourself, you'll find that my letter has understated what his own merits supply in abundance. Farewell.
