Letter 166

LibaniusCyrillus|libanius

To Cyrillus. (359/60)

Zenobius asks you through me for help on behalf of his father. The father is in Elusa; the young man is here with us, eager on behalf of his friends and formidable to his enemies. Let the fact that he cares about his parents be proof enough to you of his education.

If his father comes before you, you will help him for the father's own sake. But while he is away pursuing his studies, grant this favor to me.

Modern English rendering for readability. See the 19th-century translation or original Latin/Greek for scholarly use.
