Letter 161

LibaniusUnknown|libanius

To the same person. (359/60)

This is Pales, whom I brought along when you came to stay with us and whom I introduced to you. I believe his face will remind you of what I said about him and what you yourself promised.

The time for action has come. Confirm the hopes you gave to both him and me. You will admire the man when you see what he asks for. He will seek nothing outside the law, and if the powerful simply refrain from harming him, he will be grateful.

Modern English rendering for readability. See the 19th-century translation or original Latin/Greek for scholarly use.
