Letter 9238
Gregory the Great (Wisigothic)→Unknown|gregory great
From: Pope Gregory I
To: Leo, Bishop of Catania
Date: ~598 AD
Context: Gregory commends the bearer of this letter
The bearer of this letter, Severus — a man of distinction and good standing — is known to us personally and is deserving of every assistance. I commend him warmly to Your Fraternity, asking that you receive him with the kindness his character warrants, and provide him whatever support his needs require. When we commend such a person, it reflects our own care for those whom God has placed in our charge. Do not let him find himself without support where the Church's pastoral reach extends.
I^ilius noster Severus vir magnificus^ praesentium lator ad Siciliam venire desi-
derans nostris se apud fratemitatem vestram petiit epistolis commendari. Venientem
ergo cum qua decet sacerdotali caritate suscipite eique in quo usus exegerit vestra
solacia ministrate, quatenus vobis coram positis in nuUo se contra iustitiam sentiat
laborare*, sed magis auxilii vestri ope suffultus quiete sua^, quam studiose diligit,
securius® perfruatur nosque de eius tranquillitate , quae illi per vos fuerit procurata,
laetificare possimus.
