Letter 9212

Gregory the Great (Wisigothic)Unknown|gregory great
From: Pope Gregory I
To: Brunhild [Brunhildis], Queen of the Franks
Date: July 599 AD
Context: Gregory commends Hilarius, bearer of this letter, to the Frankish queen

Most serene Queen, the bearer of this letter is Hilarius, whom I send to you with confidence in your continued goodwill toward this see and toward the work of the Church in Frankia. He carries our message and our hope, and I ask you to receive him with the gracious welcome that I have come to expect from a queen who has shown such consistent care for the Christian faith. Your partnership in the mission of the Church — in supporting monasteries, protecting clergy, and advancing the conversion of your peoples — is a gift for which this see is genuinely grateful. May God continue to bless your reign.
