Letter 9168
Gregory the Great (Wisigothic)→Unknown|gregory great
From: Pope Gregory I
To: Castorius, His Notary
Date: ~599 AD
Context: Gregory orders Castorius to deal with a property dispute involving the monastery of Saints Marcus, Marcellinus, and Francis
The dispute over certain properties between the monastery of Saints Marcus, Marcellinus, and Francis and the other parties concerned has been pending too long. I am directing you to go to the relevant parties and resolve the matter. Look at the original deeds and grants, identify what is legitimately held by the monastery and what may have been improperly claimed, and help reach a clear settlement. A monastery should not have to divert its energies to property litigation. Get this settled.
