Letter 6095

Gregory the Great (Wisigothic)Unknown|gregory great
From: Gregory the Great, Pope, in Rome
To: Urbicus, abbot
Date: ~596 AD
Context: Gregory instructs Abbot Urbicus to receive Agathon if his wife agrees to embrace religious life — Book 6 version.

Gregory to Urbicus, abbot.

I return to the case of Agathon, who wishes to enter your monastery. My instruction remains the same: receive him if and only if his wife is also willing to commit herself to a recognized form of religious life.

Has this question been put to her? Has she responded? If so, let me know the result and I will give further direction.
Gregory
