Letter 2084

Gregory the Great (Wisigothic)Unknown|gregory great
From: Pope Gregory I
To: Bona, Abbess
Date: ~592 AD
Context: Gregory again orders the monastery to be built and confirms the presbyter John's bequests to Bona

I am restating and confirming my previous directive: the monastery is to be built, and all the bequests that the presbyter John made to you and your community in his testament are to be honored in full. I have received reports that there has been resistance to both — some party questioning the bequests, others impeding the construction. Both forms of resistance are unacceptable. The testament is valid; the construction is authorized; the bequests are confirmed by the authority of this apostolic see. Proceed without interference.
