Letter 13002

Gregory the Great (Wisigothic)Unknown|gregory great
From: Pope Gregory I
To: Adeodatus, Abbot of Naples
Date: ~603 AD
Context: Gregory formally unites the monastery of Crater with Adeodatus's monastery in Naples

I am formally uniting the monastery of Crater with your monastery in Naples. The two communities are to function henceforth as one, under your governance and the Rule you have established. This union is intended to strengthen both communities and to bring greater stability to the smaller one. Exercise your authority over the combined community with equity and pastoral wisdom, and ensure that the monks of the Crater monastery are integrated into your community with the dignity they deserve.
