Gregory to Romanus, defender.

The management of the church's patrimony in Sicily requires constant attention, and I am writing to give you direction on several matters that have come to my attention.

I want you to be particularly attentive to the following: the fair treatment of the tenants on our estates; the proper collection of what is owed without excessive demands; the honest accounting of all income and expenditure; and the prompt resolution of disputes that affect the church's property or its tenants.

You represent the church in Sicily. How you act reflects on the church. Act accordingly.
