Letter 29

UnknownEugenetes|c. 516 AD|ennodius pavia
From: Ennodius, deacon in Pavia
To: Eugenetes
Date: ~517 AD
Context: A letter reflecting on how the laziness of the senses is overcome by the urgency of friendship.

Ennodius to Eugenetes.

Whenever the sluggishness of the senses threatens to overwhelm me, the urgency of friendship pulls me back. I write to you because the alternative — surrendering to lethargy — is unacceptable when a friend awaits my word.

Forgive the tardiness. Accept the letter. Farewell.
